What exactly is a science slam?
Science slams offer researchers and students the opportunity to present their topics to a broad audience in an entertaining way. Whether it's mattress construction, practical applications of mathematics, language documentation in New Caledonia, or the connection between counterfeit handbags and meat substitutes—anything is possible. Creativity is key: singing, dancing, painting, or visualizing—anything goes. The only rule is that the presentation must not exceed ten minutes and must not endanger anyone. At the end, the audience chooses the Science Slam Champion.
Our formats
Science Slam Tournaments
Six slammys compete against each other in a Science Slam tournament and try to win over the audience. Three slammers compete against each other in a direct comparison, with the audience voting one slammer into the semi-finals.
In the final, these semi-finalists have another opportunity to win over the audience. The audience then decides on the Science Slam Champion of the evening in the final.
Science Slam Duels
In Science Slam duels, two science slammers compete against each other in a direct comparison. They each have ten minutes to win over the audience. At the end of the performances, the audience is asked once again to choose the winner of the duel.
Science Slam Champions
November 2025:
Jonas Biedermann was crowned Science Slam Champion 2025 with his science slam «How long is the coastline of Great Britain?» He was awarded the Golden Sloth by the audience.
October 2024:
Philipp Gadow won the second edition of Science Slam, thrilling the audience with his science slam “A top quark rarely comes alone.”

May 2024:

Science Slam Bern goes...
In March 2025, we were able to hold three exciting duels in the beautiful setting of the Münstergassen Library together with the University Library of Bern as part of Museum Night.
And in September, we were at the Night of Research and were able to give science at the University of Bern a stage in a humorous way. The audience had the chance to choose their duel champions in all duels.
